Ingredient Highlight: Meadowfoam Seed Oil

Posted by ZuRI on Sep 2nd 2020

Just like checking the nutritional labels while perusing the grocery store aisles, checking the ingredients of skin care products holds its own importance. The skin is our largest organ and by directly applying topicals to this organ, we are is sending these ingredients straight into the body. For this reason, there are ingredients you may want to avoid, such as parabens and phthalates, that have shown to be toxic. On the other hand, there are key ingredients you may look for in skin products, such as retinol and hyaluronic acid, that are shown to improve skin conditions and target specific issues.

At ZuRI we boast the fact that we take time to source high quality ingredients for all of our products but understand that most people are not ingredient experts. Our ingredient highlight is meant to point out some of our favorite ingredients and explain why we like them.

Ingredient Highlights: Meadowfoam Seed Oil

Argan oil, who?

There is a new oil in town.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Meadowfoam Seed Oil.

Now, here at ZuRI CBD, we have known about this special oil for quite some time. Meadowfoam Seed Oil is one of the star ingredients (along with CBD, of course!) in our ZuRI CBD Freeze Rub and Roll-On.

SO WHAT IS IT AND WHERE DID IT COME FROM?

Meadowfoam (Limnathes alba) is native to Northern California, Southern Oregon, and Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Meadowfoam Seed Oil comes from the seeds of Meadowfoam. This seed contains 20-30% oil and is obtained by crushing the seeds and using a solvent extraction process. Starting in the late 1950s, the USDA was searching for plants that might provide a renewable source of raw materials and found Meadowfoam. Mass development, however, did not begin until 1980 and in the 1990s, it entered the cosmetic market.

AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

To start, Meadowfoam Seed Oil fastens in moisture and behaves as a driving agent for all other ingredients. What is a driving agent you might be wondering? Well, in this case, it is a transdermal ingredient that allows all the other ingredients to penetrate deep into the dermis layer of skin. With meadowfoam seed oil being in our ZuRI-Freeze, it allows all the other good-for-you ingredients to reach deep into the muscle so the ingredients can get to work. There is a reason ZuRI Freeze is our best seller! On the cosmetic side of things, it will not leave a sticky or tacky feeling to the skin like some oils can. In fact, it is easily absorbed into the skin and will improve radiance and feel luxuriously silky unlike other oils due to it being a fully refined triglyceride composed of approximately 95% fatty acids with chain lengths of 20 carbons or more. Glowy skin, anyone?

Another awesome thing about Meadowfoam seed oil? It helps keeps product formulations from oxidizing and extends the shelf life. Longer shelf life = less waste. Mother Nature will thank you.
